Bajo Alcyone

Also known as: Alcyone

Bajo Alcyone is a seamount in open water off Cocos Island, considered by operators one of the best dive sites in the world for diving with schools of scalloped hammerheads. Divers descend to a crevice at around 25 m and wait as the sharks pass overhead, often in groups of a hundred or more. Cleaning stations also attract manta and mobula rays, while silky, Galapagos, silvertip, blacktip and whitetip sharks swim alongside the hammerheads. Dolphins and sea turtles can also be seen here. Currents are strong, and the depth requires careful planning, so the dive is usually done in the morning with the current from the southwest.
