Bajo Alcyone

Bajo Alcyone is a seamount in open water off Cocos Island that operators rank among the best places in the world to dive with schooling scalloped hammerheads. Divers drop down to a crevice at around 25 m and wait while the sharks pass overhead, often in groups of a hundred or more. Cleaning stations also draw manta and mobula rays, and silky, Galapagos, silvertip, blacktip and whitetip sharks mix with the hammerheads. Dolphins and sea turtles turn up here as well. Currents are strong and the depth calls for careful planning, so the dive is normally done in the morning with the current from the southwest.
