Underwater Arch
A short distance from Arch Rock, on the seaward side of East Anacapa Island, a reef ridge comes up to about 12 ft and forms a broad underwater arch over a sandy floor. The arch is large enough to pass through easily, and light streaming through it makes a favourite photo motif. The surrounding ridge holds thick kelp, schools of blacksmith and señoritas, garibaldi and many nudibranchs and chestnut cowries. Sea lions from nearby haul-outs frequently come to play with divers. A strong south swell can make the site surgy or undiveable.
