Upolu Reef

Upolu Reef is an inshore section of the Great Barrier Reef and one of the quickest crossings from Cairns. Bommies rise from about 12 metres to the surface around a sheltered lagoon, which makes it a common choice for introductory dives. On the outer edge, the Wonder Wall site offers a wall dive to about 15 metres. Giant clams, nudibranchs, hawksbill and green turtles, whitetip reef sharks and many anemonefish are reported. Upolu Cay, a shifting sand cay on the reef, was largely submerged by a storm in early 2023.
