Michaelmas Cay

Also known as: Michaelmas Reef

Michaelmas Cay is a small vegetated sand island on Michaelmas Reef and one of the most important seabird nesting sites in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Its western side is sheltered in nearly all weather, so coral gardens grow close to the beach. Divers swim between coral heads with stingrays, groupers, reef sharks and resting turtles, and large giant clams live in the lagoon. Banana Bommie is the best-known dive site on the reef. Silverswift also dives a group of three bommies called the Three Sisters behind the reef.
