El Cantil
Also known as: Los Cantiles
The reef stretches for a long way toward the beach, with a coral-covered top and one side broken into canyons, tunnels and overhangs that end in sand. These crevices shelter green moray eels, nudibranchs and other reef dwellers, while whitetip reef sharks are often seen resting or patrolling. The northern part, sometimes called El Cantil Norte, is a little deeper and flatter and holds large dog snapper, yellow snapper, grunts and goatfish. The big school of jacks sometimes moves over this reef, and amberjacks pass by. The shallowest section, El Cantilito, is suitable for beginners.
