El Vencedor
Conosciuto anche come: El Vencedor Wreck
The tuna trawler struck the reef and went down decades ago; its collapsed hull, holds and rigging now lie scattered on a sandy bottom and work as an artificial reef. Over recent years the site has become the most dependable place in the park to meet bull sharks, which cruise past without any bait or feeding. Large resident schools of yellow snapper and graybar grunt hang over the debris, joined by groupers, big moray eels and schooling pufferfish. The sand around the wreck is covered with garden eels, and in autumn sardine schools can turn the water into a dense cloud of fish. Access is rationed by the park's weekly lottery for its most popular sites, and El Vencedor usually opens on a single day per week.
