Carlisle Bay Marine Park
Also known as: Carlisle Bay
Carlisle Bay is the natural harbour of Bridgetown, where the west and south coasts meet, and it has been turned into a marine park. Its sandy bottom holds a group of wrecks, among them the Berwyn, CE-Trek, Eillon, Bajan Queen and Cornwallis, close enough together to see several in one dive. Centuries of shipping have left old anchors, cannons, cannonballs and antique bottles scattered on the seabed. It offers the best chance in Barbados of meeting turtles and rays, and seahorses, frogfish, flying gurnards and batfish turn up as well. Because it is sheltered and can be reached from the beach or by boat, operators use it for beginners, training dives, night dives and as a fallback when the sea is rough elsewhere.
