Paraportiani Wreck

Also known as: SS Paraportiani · Panza Wreck · Panza Paraportiani Wreck

The Paraportiani was carrying wheat from Romania to Jeddah around Africa because the Suez Canal was closed, lost its navigation equipment and was driven onto the reef by currents. Today the hull is covered in soft corals and sponges, and the funnels form tunnels that groupers and Napoleon wrasse use for cover. Sweepers, lionfish, scorpionfish, glassfish and the occasional barracuda live on the wreck. Good light and clear water make it very photogenic, but it should be dived at slack tide because currents swirl around it.
