Mi'l Channel
Also known as: Mi'il Channel · M'il Channel
The channel has a sandy rubble floor between vertical coral walls. Its currents can be almost still at slack tide and race at up to 4 mph when the tide turns, sometimes running in opposite directions at surface and bottom. On an incoming tide divers fly down the middle with both walls in view. Hard corals mix with leather corals, and near Manta Ridge purple soft corals open in strong current. Mantas, hawksbill turtles, eagle rays, reef sharks and schools of jacks and snappers pass in the outer channel, while lobsters and octopus hide in the walls. Mantas gather here mainly from December to April.
