Secca di Mezzo Canale
The top is a lookout for large pelagic fish hunting smaller prey. Below about 35 to 40 m big gorgonian fans and encrusting sponges take over the rock, with basket stars resting on them. Around 50 m large groupers swim among false black coral, and melon and pencil urchins are common. Black coral and sea pens complete a remarkable deep community. Currents are often strong and the ascent may have to be made in open water with reel and buoy.
