Formiche della Zanca
Also known as: Little Rocks of Zanca
The shallow route weaves between the rocks through small walls, canyons and swim-through grottoes coloured by sea daisies and sponges, home to octopus, congers, morays and groupers. The deeper route crosses a sand strip to a line of huge boulders that start around 20 to 25 m and plunge beyond 40 m. There the red gorgonians grow over a metre wide and shelter lobsters and red scorpionfish, while dentex hunt and eagle rays pass. A large school of barracuda lives on the plateau between the rocks. Diving in Elba counts it among the most renowned sites of the island and recommends at least two dives.
