Tuheiava Pass
Also known as: Tuheiva Pass · Tuheiava
Tuheiava is the single opening between the Tikehau lagoon and the ocean, 20 to 25 minutes by boat from the village. Most dives are planned around the incoming tide, drifting over coral formations, furrows and cavities filled with parrotfish, triggerfish, groupers, moray eels and lionfish. Manta rays often face into the current, and Raie Manta Club notes a group of whitetip reef sharks resting under a rocky overhang inside the pass. Great hammerheads, tiger sharks, grey reef and blacktip sharks, barracuda and tuna are also reported. Coco Dive Tikehau points out that the dives here are easier and shallower than at the other atolls.
