Avatoru Reef
Also known as: Avatoru Right Side
The site lies on the outer reef beside the right-hand side of Avatoru Pass, on a coral plateau that stretches towards the pass. Two residents give it its reputation: big silvertip sharks and a large school of bigeye or horse-eye jacks, and TOPDIVE adds that an African pompano may show up. Because the pass is shallower than Tiputa and oriented differently to the current, guides can lead divers in a wide loop close to the pass and back to the outer slope while the current flows out. It is the usual Avatoru dive when the tide is going out.
