Zealot

Also known as: MV Zealot · Helme Park

Launched in 1873 at South Shields as the Helme Park and renamed Zealot about a year later, the 243 ft steamer was bound for Bombay with bales, cases and iron when she struck Daedalus. The captain managed to put her bow up on the reef, but she then rolled over and sank, spilling iron cargo down the wall. Beams from that cargo are visible within recreational depth and lead down toward the hull. The wreck itself, with its two anchors on the slope, was found in 2003 and identified by a dinner plate bearing the ship's original name. Only experienced technical divers can reach it.
