Aida

Also known as: Aida II

Built in 1911 in Nantes as a supply vessel for Egypt's lighthouses, the Aida later served the Egyptian Navy and was carrying troops when heavy seas pushed her onto the reef in 1957; everyone on board was rescued. The hull broke in two and the main part slid down the steep wall, so the wreck now hangs at a sharp angle with the stern in deep water. Remains of the engine sit only a few metres down, while the intact rear section starts around 25 to 35 m and the propeller is in technical range. Her holds are open, and the upper section is full of glassfish. Big groupers are reported near the stern, and the dive often continues as a drift along the island wall.
