Shaab Jumna

Also known as: Sha'ab Jumna · Shaab Jibna · Jumna Reef · Jumna

Shaab Jumna is the first reef of the archipelago when sailing south-east from Port Sudan and is marked by a beacon. Its walls drop steeply and are riddled with holes, cracks and caves. A large cave at about 30 m on the outer wall is a resting place for whitetip reef sharks. The reef is best known for hammerhead sharks, with grey reef sharks and occasionally silvertip sharks as well. Depending on the current it is dived on its east or west side.
