Darraka

Also known as: Darraka Island · Dahret Darraka

Darraka is said to be where Jacques Cousteau carried out studies after leaving Shaab Rumi. Its plateau on the north-east side lies between about 20 and 28 m and is a lush coral garden with small caves. Huge whip corals stand on it, and red-mouth groupers, black-spotted sweetlips and damselfish crowd the coral. Schools of thousands of surgeonfish pass with barracuda, jacks and tuna, and small groups of hammerhead sharks are often seen. Red snappers live on the reef top at 5 to 7 m.
