SS Grainton

Also known as: Grainton

The SS Grainton was built in 1911 and was carrying grain from Vancouver to Hamburg when she grounded on Dry Rock at Little Saba. She was pulled free but sank the next day while under tow, on 31 January 1928. The hull has opened up over time, exposing her steam engines and allowing a look inside. Groupers, snappers, moray eels, barracuda and nurse sharks are reported, and the ship is too large to see in one dive. Because she lies in tidal water, dives have to be planned around the tide.
