Packet Rock

Packet Rock sits in the channel between St. Thomas and Buck Island, in front of Bolongo Bay, and its top comes almost to the surface. Many ships have hit it over the centuries, among them the packet ship Warwick in 1816, whose crew dumped her cargo in a failed attempt to save her. Roof tiles, pieces of pottery, clay pipes and a large cauldron still lie among the coral. Barracuda school around the rock, large French and queen angelfish, triggerfish and hawksbill turtles are regular, and the ledges on the north side hold French grunts and yellowtails.
