French Cap

Also known as: Frenchman's Cap · French Cap Pinnacle

French Cap is a small uninhabited cay well south of St. Thomas, too far and too exposed for regular trips, so dive centres go only on flat days. Its best-known dive is the Pinnacle, a group of rock spires rising from about 95 ft to roughly 40 ft, covered in hard and soft corals and surrounded by jacks and barracuda. Other dives include a cathedral-like chamber at about 35 ft that divers can surface into, and ledges full of lobsters. Black durgons, schools of fish, spotted eagle rays, turtles, morays and octopus are reported. Open-ocean currents can make the dives demanding.
