La Spacca

Also known as: Spacca delle Corvine

The shoal lies in open water north-east of the Isolotto dei Monaci and its top is cut in two by a narrow cleft about 2 m wide, whose walls are covered in sea daisies. Red gorgonians cover the outer wall. Dentex, amberjack and sometimes bluefin tuna hunt among clouds of damselfish, and a resident school of large barracuda is almost always present. Orso Diving describes a school of thousands of white seabream and a group of about a hundred brown meagre. Current can be strong, and the dive is then run as a drift for suitably experienced divers.
