Egle Wreck
Also known as: Relitto Egle · Relitti Egle
Built in 1893 and requisitioned by the Italian navy, the Egle was sailing from Cagliari to La Maddalena with a minesweeper escort when three torpedoes sank it on 29 March 1943. The hull has collapsed under the weight of its cargo, with the stern destroyed and the bow partly buried, and it rests in sailing position. The plates are covered with the invasive green alga Caulerpa racemosa, while gorgonians and sponges grow in the shadier parts. Scorpionfish live on the wreck, amberjack pass by, and a granite shoal near the stern holds groupers and morays. Pieces of fishing nets and lines on the wreck call for care.
