Fort Worden

Also known as: Fort Worden Underwater Park · Port Townsend Marine Science Center

Fort Worden offers two distinct dives: an artificial reef of cement pipes and tires marked by a white buoy, and the Port Townsend Marine Science Center pier with its plumose anemones and tubeworms. Historical items on the bottom include First World War era pilings, concrete tank traps, old bottles and lumps of coal from the fort's early days. Giant Pacific octopus, sculpins, nudibranchs and kelp crabs are regularly seen, and sand lances school around the pier. Currents change frequently, so divers either drift toward the pier or shelter beneath it. Parking requires a Discover Pass, and the park facilities make it a good two-dive day for families.
