Fort Flagler

Also known as: Fort Flagler State Park

Fort Flagler sits on Marrowstone Island at the edge of Admiralty Inlet. The state park's artificial fishing reef consists of stacked concrete slabs and a load of old plumbing, connected by a network of ropes on the bottom. Lingcod, greenling, sculpins, wolf eels, octopus and schools of rockfish and perch use the rubble, and sea pens grow on the sand. The pier itself has been removed, but its remains still guide divers out to the slope. Strong Admiralty Inlet currents mean the site is only safe during long slacks on low exchanges, and a long stairway leads down to the beach.
