Salamah

Also known as: Great Quoin Island

Salamah, or Great Quoin Island, lies in the Strait of Hormuz and marks the exit from the Gulf of Oman. A sloping wall drops to sand, and a ridge runs off the south-eastern point from about 11 m into deep water, carpeted in soft corals below 18 m. Sheesa Beach describes plenty of leopard sharks and Freestyle Divers reports zebra sharks, along with round ribbontail rays, marble and eagle rays, great barracuda and giant trevally; whale sharks are possible too. It is about 2.5 hours by boat from Dibba, so it is done on liveaboard trips or from Khasab, at slack high tide and with an emergency plan.
