Tako Flats
Tako Flats takes its name from the Japanese word for octopus, and the coral heads and rubble along its sandy channel are a favoured hiding place for them. The site sits inside the crater near the western tip, directly beside the hard coral of Middle Reef, so it is normally explored as part of a larger dive. Activity Authority counts it among the calmest water in the crater, and the PADI blog lists it as an Open Water dive with little to no current. At certain times of the year manta rays come here to feed on dense clouds of fish larvae. Moray eels, nudibranchs and barracuda are also reported.
