El Bajo del Monstruo
El Bajo del Monstruo is a submerged pinnacle off the northern end of Malpelo that is only dived when conditions allow. Strong currents sweep it, and huge schools of leather bass and creole fish move through them. On the flanks with less current the rock is covered with delicate yellow-orange anemones that divers must not touch. The site is known for the rare smalltooth sand tiger shark, which divers may meet if they descend to about 65 m.
