La Catedral
Also known as: The Cathedral
La Catedral is a big pinnacle that rises from a sandy bottom almost to the surface off the northern end of Malpelo. A large tunnel runs through it, starting on the sand at about 18 m and climbing towards the surface. Its walls are covered in corals and sponges and give shelter to many reef fish, eels, grunts and snappers. Outside, whitetip sharks, eagle rays and tunas pass, and big schools of bigeye jacks are often seen.
