Pointe du Gouvernail
Also known as: Pointe Gouvernail
Pointe du Gouvernail lies near Anse à Dos on Terre-de-Bas. From rubble at about 5 m under the boat, divers follow the wall down to a sand bottom at around 20 m and return with the wall on the other side, usually helped by a frequent but gentle current. Several hawksbill turtles live on the wall, and groups of barracuda often hang off it at 18 to 20 m. Butterflyfish of several species are common, and the big boulders on top of the wall shelter groupers, lobsters and large snappers. Between February and April whales can sometimes be heard while they move through the Canal des Saintes.
