Sairee Reef
Sairee Reef runs parallel to Sairee Beach, Koh Tao's longest beach on the west coast, and lies just minutes from shore. It is a long, gently sloping fringing reef where scattered boulders, low coral heads and patches of sand reach about 12 to 16 m. Its specialty is easy night diving: after dark crustaceans and hunting predators come out and the bioluminescence is a highlight, which makes it a popular first night dive. By day, fusiliers, juvenile snapper, butterflyfish and parrotfish swim over the coral, blue-spotted stingrays lie on sandy patches and cuttlefish and moray eels are common, while eagle rays and turtles are rare visitors. With almost no current it suits beginners, training dives and refreshers.
