Pottery Pinnacle

Also known as: Pottery

Pottery Pinnacle is a small group of rock pinnacles in the south of Mae Haad Bay, just outside Jansom Bay and close to the main pier. The rocks rise from the sand to just below the surface and are covered mainly in hard corals, sea urchins and sea cucumbers, and a sunken longtail boat lies a little away from them. Its specialty is night diving: with little light pollution nearby, the bioluminescence is especially bright, and octopus, crabs, shrimps and Indian walkman come out after dark. By day, Jenkins whiprays and blue-spotted ribbontail rays hide under the overhangs, starry-eyed pufferfish shelter in crevices, and hexagon and blue-lined groupers, rabbitfish and juvenile boxfish are common. Mostly shallow and sheltered with light currents, it suits Open Water divers, training dives and small groups, and Three Rocks is a short swim across the sand.
