Marianna Wreck
Also known as: Marianna · Mariana (Wreck)
Marianna was built in the Netherlands in 1961 and was carrying barley, pipes and steel sheets from the Red Sea to Piraeus when she struck the Amaras reef on 24 July 1981. All 24 crew were rescued. The ship was later blasted to clear the passage, and the forward part now lies against the reef, where it has turned into an artificial reef. Divers usually follow the reef wall down to about 15 m, cross a short sandy stretch to the open front of the wreck and start at its deepest point. The wreck is covered in growth and attracts nudibranchs, worms and many fish.
