Mononaftis

Also known as: Lonely Sailor

The name means 'lonely sailor' and refers to the rock standing alone off the coast. Diver's Club Crete calls it its largest site, with several possible routes from 18 m for newer divers to about 35 m for experienced ones. The terrain mixes reef, small canyons, big holes and cavities beneath the rocks. Groupers, octopus, moray eels, scorpion fish, breams and stingrays are common, and large schools of barracuda are often met on the deeper reef. The bay was an ancient port and stays calm when the wind blows elsewhere.
