Spot X

Spot X lies in open ocean near Julian Rocks, inside the Mackerel Boulder habitat protection zone of the marine park. Four big rocks sit on the sand in a clover shape, forming crossing gullies with small caves and crevices. Without any shelter it can only be dived when the sea is calm, which is why operators go there only occasionally. A column of damselfish, basket stars, black coral and small gorgonians cover the rocks, and large wobbegongs, kingfish, jewfish and rays are common. It is known for large shark encounters, and Gold Coast Dive Adventures says divers need to be more advanced to dive it.
