Kargı Island

Also known as: Kargı Adası · Kargi Island

Kargı Island lies about 500 metres off Akyarlar on the western side of the Bodrum Peninsula and carries a small lighthouse. The dive usually starts in a cove on the south-east side and follows a wall with reef structures, where rock formations reach the mid-thirties. Amphora remains lie scattered in shallower water. Currents at the surface and at depth are often strong. Divers meet groupers, moray and conger eels, barracuda schools, tuna and dentex, pink trumpet sponges grow on the rock, and loggerhead turtles are occasionally seen.
