Batu Payung

Also known as: Tanjung Batu Payong · Umbrella Rock

Pulau Ai lies west of Banda Neira, and Batu Payung has a steeper wall than the sloping reefs on the island's south side. The wall is cut by cracks and overhangs and carries barrel sponges, vase sponges, sea fans and tube corals. Rainbow runners often come in to feed on the schools of fusiliers along the wall. The shallow reef flat is covered with hard coral fields, soft corals and anemones, busy with triggerfish, batfish, hawkfish and anemonefish. Many divers spend the end of the dive up here watching the reef life.
