Batu Kapal
Also known as: Ship Rock · Boat Rock
The name means Ship Rock, after the main rock whose shape above the water resembles a vessel. Several deeper pinnacles and a large boulder lie around it, so one dive is not enough to see the whole area. Their walls carry enormous orange sea fans and barrel sponges, home to large moray eels, dense schools of redtooth triggerfish and midnight snappers. On the eastern side a channel between boulders is rich in invertebrates, and leaf scorpionfish in four different colours have been recorded there. Visibility often reaches 40 to 50 m, and grey reef sharks and rainbow runners are sometimes seen around the deeper north-western pinnacle. Currents are strong and change direction, which can make the site undiveable at certain times of day.
