Karnobol

Also known as: Karnopol

Karnobol is one of several coral sites along Banda Besar, the largest island of the group. Its special feature is the topography of big boulders and rocky outcrops on a steep slope. Large gorgonians, sponges and soft corals grow on the slope, and staghorn coral spreads over the flatter parts. Napoleon wrasse and bumphead parrotfish are frequent visitors, and the reef fish include regal angelfish, surgeonfish and many butterflyfish species. According to Dive The World, the name goes back to a club once used in a massacre of Bandanese people on this coast.
