Secret Bay
Also known as: Gilimanuk · Gilimanuk Bay
Roughly 2 km across and only 3 to 12 m deep, the bay holds two small islands and patches of mangrove. Strong tidal currents in the Bali Strait keep the water cool at around 20 to 25 degrees C, and the bay works as a nursery where larval fish collect. Fine sand, sea grass and debris shelter seahorses, pipefish, frogfish, mandarinfish and picture dragonets, juvenile batfish, snake eels and cockatoo waspfish. Divers need good buoyancy because the silt is easily stirred up. Dives are best timed for the rising tide or high water, and night dives reveal cephalopods and bobbit worms.
