Maaya Thila
Also known as: Maya Thila
The thila is a protected marine site of roughly 80 metres across that can be circled in a single dive when the current allows. Its top lies a few metres below the surface and the edge drops past 30 metres, with caves, overhangs and a swim-through in a large rock on the south side. Whitetip reef sharks are the signature sight, often joined by grey reef sharks, turtles, schools of batfish and fusiliers, and hunting tuna. Small life such as frogfish, stonefish, nudibranchs and morays hides on the reef top. At night giant trevally and whitetips hunt across the pinnacle, which has made it one of the most famous night dives in the country.
