Fish Head
Also known as: Mushimasmingili Thila · Mushi Mas Mingili Thila · Shark Point · Mushimas Migili
The thila is a marine protected area of around 100 metres in length that sits inside the atoll in front of a major channel, so tidal currents can be fierce. Grey reef sharks gather where the current hits the reef, a habit dating from the time when sharks were fed here. An undercut overhang runs along much of the pinnacle and holds thousands of blue-lined snappers, gorgonians and black coral bushes. Napoleon wrasse, spotted eagle rays, tuna and trevally hunting fusiliers complete the scene, and hawksbill turtles live on the top. Its Dhivehi name refers to the small fusilier found in huge numbers on the thila.
