Remote coral atoll in the Ralik Chain, world-renowned for the sunken U.S. and Japanese nuclear-test fleet resting in its lagoon, including the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga.
Bikini Atoll consists of 23 islands surrounding a roughly 594 km2 lagoon, about 850 km northwest of the capital Majuro. Used by the US for nuclear weapons tests after WWII, the lagoon holds target ships sunk during the tests including the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CV-3), the battleship USS Arkansas, the Japanese battleship Nagato, and the cruiser Sakawa. The Saratoga's flight deck lies at roughly 27 m; PADI describes it as one of only three carrier wrecks in the world accessible to scuba divers.
