Grass Cay

Grass Cay sits between Thatch Cay and Mingo Cay on the St. Thomas side of St. John and is reached only by boat. The reef slopes gently away from the island as a field of large coral mounds and big sea fans, with sand patches below. The sand bottom draws stingrays and manta rays, and nurse sharks, turtles, tarpon, mackerel and barracuda are also reported. Its popularity rests on night dives, when octopus, lobsters and crabs come out and parrotfish sleep in their mucus cocoons.
