Garuae Pass
Also known as: Passe Nord Garuae · Garuae Channel · Passe Garuae
Garuae is the main entrance to the Fakarava lagoon, in the north-west of the atoll and roughly 20 minutes by boat from the village of Rotoava. For safety and visibility the dive centres dive it only at slack water or with the incoming current. Divers descend on the ocean side to a step near the outer wall, where dozens of grey reef sharks cruise with tuna and barracuda, then let the current carry them through canyons covered in coral. Many profiles end at Ali Baba, a sheltered hollow packed with fish. Because the pass is so wide and the currents vary with tide and moon, no two dives are the same.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
