Fortescue Bay

Also known as: Fortesque Bay Kelp Forest

Fortescue Bay is one of the easiest shore dives on the peninsula, entered beside the boat ramp. Patches of rock on a sandy bottom anchor stands of giant kelp that can reach the surface, and the bright sand makes the dive light and clear. The kelp draws plenty of fish, and abalone are common. The giant kelp has declined sharply in recent years with warming water, so the forest varies from year to year. Boat traffic near the ramp is the main hazard, so divers should tow a flag.
