Bird Rock

Bird Rock has three main areas: the Elbow, a crevice under the rock packed with butterfly perch and banded morwong; the T-cave with walls covered in jewel anemones and yellow zoanthids; and the Ballroom, a low cavern whose ceiling glows with jewel anemones above a floor of sponges. Large granite boulders shelter many species of nudibranchs and sea spiders, and conger eels sometimes live in the caves. The boat run from the Gulch ramp is short and makes a good shallower alternative to the deep Governor Island dives.
