Turtle Cavern
Also known as: Turtle Cave
Turtle Cavern is a system of connected chambers in Sipadan's wall below the Drop Off, entered at about 18 metres. It is famous for the skeletons of turtles that lost their way inside and drowned.
A bell-shaped tunnel leads from the entrance down into a lower chamber, where turtle skeletons lie in fine silt. Following the left side of the cavern brings divers to a tunnel that connects to Turtle Tomb, a deeper cave system. The site is an overhead environment that may only be entered with a qualified local guide, proper lights and good buoyancy control. Even divers who stay at the mouth get a striking view of the blue framed by the cave walls, sometimes with whitetip reef sharks passing.
