Tamaya

The 50 m sailing ship was built in 1862 and belonged to a Nantes shipowner when it anchored beside the Roraima in May 1902. It was located in the early 1980s and identified when its bell, inscribed Tamaya 1862, was raised; the bell is kept in the museum of Saint-Pierre. The wreck lies on its starboard side right at the lip of a wall, with its superstructure starting at about 78 m and the bottom around 85 m. From the fallen mast in the middle of the wreck divers can see both the bow and the stern framework. Local dive centres call it the holy grail of wreck diving at Saint-Pierre, a legendary but exclusive dive.
