Calavera

Also known as: Temple of Doom · Esqueleto

The cenote belongs to the Sac Aktun system and is one of the best places to see the halocline, where greenish fresh water sits on clear salt water from about 13 m. The cavern line runs around the base of a large breakdown pile, and the light from the openings forms beams on sunny days. Formations along the grotto wall and fine sediment on the floor call for good buoyancy. In summer algae on the surface turn the daylight zone neon green. Cave divers continue through the Madonna Passage or The Canyons towards the Coliseum Room and the Hall of Giants, and sturdy wooden stairs lead out of the water.
